What is MFG?

The fattening procedure, multi-level fat grafting, is turning heads. The relatively new procedure works to give you a youthful appearance by plumping the face by using fat from your stomach.

After the fat cells are taken from your abdomen they are injected into your face. This procedure is an ideal alternative to a facelift because it actually restores your facial volume.

This procedure differs from other fillers that often use animal-based collagen. With multi-level fat grafting, these new cells age alongside your face’s natural cells.

These multi-level fat grafts also have a high staying power and there is little possibility for lumpiness. In fact, almost 90% of those who undergo multi-level fat grafting enjoy permanent results. For those whose results are not permanent, they only have to go in for two or three repeat procedures, as opposed to once every few months. The results of a multi-level fat graft lasts about five years.

Many physicians and cosmetic surgeons consider this revolutionary procedure a safer, more effective alternative to facelifts. This procedure is performed by a limited number of facial plastic surgeons in the United States. Dr. Babak Azizzadeh is one of them.

If you have kidney or live disease or very low body fat, multi-level fat grafting is not recommended. Patients occasionally experience swelling and bruising following the procedure, but that generally subsides within a week.

Diverse Use of Botox injections

Botox injections have also been known to alleviate migraines, overactive bladders and tennis elbow. The injections are also undergoing studies for relief from cerebral palsy to arthritis and stroke.

If you are suffering from any of these medical conditions, Dr. Babak Azizzadeh can help.
Officially approved to treat frown lines and laugh lines, Botox injections are now used to treat a variety of conditions.

Physicians effectively use the treatment to:
  • Smooth out horizontal lines in the forehead
  • Lift and shape the eyebrows
  • Shape the jaw and sides of the fact
  • Balance asymmetrical features
  • Treat medical conditions that cause spasms in the face and eyelids

Preliminary studies now hint that patients who don’t experience relief from back pain using traditional medicine may find pain relief from Botox injections.

These small-scale studies conclude that patients who underwent Botox injections to treat lower back pain reported significant pain relief after three months. Many studies must still be conducted to determine the safety of using Botox repeatedly to treat the spinal muscles.

Another condition being studied is migraines. Preliminary studies also suggest that Botox injections can offer relief from chronic headaches, tension headaches and migraines. These injections have shown to cause a decrease in the occurrences and severity of headaches for about three to four months after injection.

Plastic Surgery Anesthesia

During cosmetic plastic surgery, there are usually three basic types of anesthesia used: local injection, intravenous sedation and general anesthesia.

You and Dr. Babak Azizzadeh will determine which method is suitable for your procedure and you individual needs.

By impairing nerve function, a local injection numbs the immediate area that is going to be operated on. Feeling disappears quickly, but you may still feel pressure and movement in your tissues. Local injections are used most commonly is less-invasive procedures.

Local injection with sedation allows the patient to stay awake throughout the procedure, yet stay relaxed. Depending on the type of sedation, you may not remember the operation. Sedation takes some time to wear off. Someone may need to monitor you following surgery, while you are recovering.

General anesthesia is administered intravenously. This method allows a patient to sleep during the entire procedure and is typically used when large areas of your body are being augmented, or when children are undergoing plastic surgery. Some general anesthesia medications take several days to fully wear off.

New usage of Botox for facial paralysis patients

Botox or botulinum toxin is a series of injections that temporarily reduces wrinkles and laugh lines in your face and neck.

Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles. As a result, you aren’t able to squint, frown or raise your eyebrows as long as the effect lasts, which is typically around four months.

But these injections have also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for a number of medical conditions. These include:
  • Blepharospasm: A muscle disorder that controls the movement in your eyelids, causing them to spasm and blink uncontrollably.
  • Cervical Dystonia: This condition is characterized by involuntary contractions in your neck and shoulders.
  • Severe Underarm Sweating: Overactive sweat glands lead to this condition. Botox can temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerve that stimulate sweat glands, and has helped more than half of the patients treated.
  • Crossed Eyes: Botox can help this condition by lengthening the injected eye muscle while shortening the opposing muscle.
