Facial Liposculpture and Liposuction
Excess fat deposits, especially around the neck, chin, and cheeks are a common problem. Many people find that excess fat tissue in their face makes them look overweight, older, or just less balanced and attractive.
In many cases, people who have lost weight are left with these areas of excess fat. For others, these fatty deposits develop as they age, making them look tired, aged, and less vibrant than before.
Facial liposuction is a procedure that offers a simple and effective solution to this problem. This procedure lets us remove the fatty deposits that create the appearance of:
- Sagging jowls
- Bags beneath the eyes
- Heavy, worn upper eye area
- Double chin or turkey neck
- Excess fat around the neck
- How facial liposuction works
A minimally invasive procedure, facial liposuction is a quick and often effective option for eliminating premature signs of aging, or to bring your features into better proportion and create a more defined jawline.
Facial liposuction is generally performed under local anesthesia. The areas of excess fat will be isolated and then anesthetized. A small incision will then be made in a discrete, concealed place away from the liposuction area. Then, a specialized device called a cannula will be inserted through this incision and used to gently remove the excess fat.
Facial liposuction can be performed as a procedure on its own, or in combination with other procedures such as:
- Facelift for a taut, more youthful appearance
- Cheek and chin implants to create contour and definition
- MFG or fat grafting, to fill out areas of the face, or dermal fillers.
- Botox or Dysport
Who is a good candidate for facial liposculpture?
Anyone who is in good overall health with fatty areas in the face that are resistant to diet and exercise are a good candidate for facial liposuction. A good candidate is usually between the ages of 16-75. It is important to remember that facial liposculpture is not to be used as a form of weight loss, but to sculpt certain areas of the face that are resistant to diet and exercise. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis with local anesthetic making it very safe. To learn more about what to expect during your consultation, check out our helpful blog.
When will I see facial liposculpture results?
Patients begin to see results within 6 weeks, but it takes between 6-12 months to see full results.
Can liposculpture be combined with skin tightening treatments?
Yes, liposculpture can be combined with treatments such as the Ulthera non-surgical skin tightening treatment. To that point, if you are looking for a non-surgical option, Ulthera may be the best for you.
Does facial liposuction hurt?
You will be under local anesthesia during the procedure so will not experience any pain. The healing process is relatively easy for this procedure.
What is the difference between liposuction and liposculpture?
The main difference between the two is the instrument used. The instrument, called a cannula, is much thinner with liposculpture allowing Dr. Azizzadeh and Dr. Cabin to artistically sculpt your jaw line and facial outline into a new shape using delicate instruments rather than simply sucking the fat out as was the case with the larger cannula and the old way of doing liposuction. The newer less invasive liposculpture reduces healing time, improves results and involves less scarring or incisions.
The small microcannulas don’t leave ridges and waviness caused by larger cannulas. The result is so smooth and natural there there are no tell tale signs that you’ve had liposuction. Even the small openings needed for the cannula to enter the skin are so small that the resulting scars are the tiniest possible. We can also use our fractional laser to erase the scars even more.
You will be given a surgery packet with thorough information detailing the healing process, what to expect and tips to reduce swelling and bruising. However, here are a few additional tips:
- Clean the incisions with hydrogen peroxide once daily.
- Apply antibiotic ointments to appropriate incisions twice daily.
- Your stitches are covered with a bandage. They will be removed, along with the wide tape on neck, in 4-8 days.
- Wear the chinstrap provided as much as possible for 1 week after leaving surgery center. Remove if skin irritation begins. DO NOT allow Ace bandage to roll up or wrinkle under the chin.
- In males, the tape may fall off because of the beard growth prior to your first post-op appointment. This is normal.
- Ice cubes in rubber gloves, cold compresses or frozen peas should be used for 72 hours on an hourly basis when awake. Then after, use warm compress in areas of bruising.
- No heavy exercise for 2 weeks.
- KEEP HEAD ELEVATED WHILE RESTING, RELAXING, OR SLEEPING FOR AT LEAST 1-2 WEEKS.
