Mission Statement
To reduce suffering from facial paralysis and bell’s palsy through gratis reconstructive surgery, increased awareness and collaborative research and education in the medical community.
The Foundation for Bell’s Palsy & Facial Paralysis is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) foundation located in Beverly Hills, CA. Its mission is to reduce suffering from facial paralysis and bell’s palsy through research, education and providing quality reconstructive surgery to individuals regardless of insurance, status or income.
The foundation’s goal is to increase the awareness of facial paralysis and bell’s palsy in order for individuals to obtain timely and accurate treatment, while providing free reconstructive surgery for those who do not have adequate financial means.
Through educational and fellowship activity the foundation’s goal is to increase the number of surgeons who are able to treat facial paralysis and bell’s palsy. Furthermore, the foundation is dedicated to funding qualified research projects dedicated to nerve regeneration. The foundation will also fund international missions to treat and manage children afflicted with facial paralysis.
Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, the founder of the foundation, is a Harvard Medical School-trained specialist in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is the Director of the Facial Paralysis Institute, one of the leading international centers dedicated to the treatment of individuals afflicted with facial palsy. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCLA, an attending surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and an active member of the Center for Facial Nerve Function at the House Clinic. He is the Director of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s annual symposium Advances in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Azizzadeh is Actively engaged in clinical and basic science research; he has participated in various research studies at both Harvard Medical School and UCLA. He has published extensively and has also been featured in the national media including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Los Angeles Times, Discovery Health and the New YorkTimes. He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.
Humanitarian causes are a big part of Dr. Azizzadeh’s commitment over and above his busy surgical practice.; In cooperation with the Global Smile Foundation and Medical Missions for Children (MMFC), Dr. Azizzadeh travels to third world countries treating children with cleft lip and palate disorders. He is also actively involved with the Reconstructive Surgery Program of the R.O.S.E. Fund providing free plastic and reconstructive surgery to women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.
