Cleft Lip Rhinoplasty

In some severe cases of cleft lip deformities, a cleft lip rhinoplasty procedure may be necessary to correct the appearance and function of the nose.

Cleft lip rhinoplasty is a reconstructive procedure, usually performed in severe cases of cleft lip that cannot be fully corrected by chelioplasty, or cleft lip repair procedures.

People who have had cleft rip repairs often find that their features are out of balance following their surgery.

Common problems include noses that are lopsided, leaning toward the cleft side; and a drooping at the tip, which can make the nose appear flat. With relatively simple rhinoplasty procedures, the nose can be realigned so that it is symmetrical, and the tip elevated, to create a more natural-looking appearance.

While cleft lip rhinoplasty is the same type of procedure as the standard rhinoplasty procedure, there are a number of unique considerations that we take into account for our cleft lip patients, including measures to prevent recurrence of deviation of the septum, or nasal blockage on the cleft side, as well as the potential for scar tissue to prevent normal growth patterns in our younger patients.
