Questions about Rhinoplasty

In Beverly Hills and serving the Los Angeles area

What does rhinoplasty correct?
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping is used to correct a number of cosmetic problems including:

  • Reduction in nose size
  • Increase in nose size
  • Narrowing the nostrils
  • Changing the angle of the nose in relation to the lip
  • Modifying the tip
  • Modifying the bridge

Depending on your needs one or more of the irregularities can be corrected at the same time. In some cases, rhinoplasty is conducted at the same time as septoplasty to correct damaged or deformed nasal septum.

Is rhinoplasty covered by insurance?
In some cases, insurance may cover rhinoplasty surgery if it is considered medically necessary. If you suffered trauma to your nose, or if you have a nasal passage obstruction that affects your breathing insurance may cover some or all of the procedure. If you have any questions about coverage, you should check with your insurance company prior to scheduling an appointment with Dr. Azizzadeh.

Will there be scars after surgery?
There are two types of rhinoplasty surgeries that may be performed. The traditional open method will leave some scars, but those are minimized when you see a highly trained cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Azizzadeh. The closed method limits scarring even more because the procedure occurs from inside the nostrils.

Do I have to have surgery to correct my nose?
There are exciting new treatment options available to reshape your nose without having to undergo surgery, appropriately called non-surgical nose surgery. Dr. Azizzadeh can make corrections using injectable fillers to fill depressions or change the angle of the nose, providing a better appearance with none of the related surgical risks.

How long before I can go back to work?
Depending on the extent of surgery, you can probably return to work within a few days. You will want to avoid heavy lifting for about two weeks. Remember, there will be quite a bit of swelling after surgery and you may not realize your new appearance for up to six months post operation.

Do you have to break my nose to get it to look better?
In most cases, unless the bone is actually obstructing your airway, the bone and other tissue can be adjusted and corrected without such drastic measures. If the shape or situation of the septum is a problem, an additional procedure called septoplasty may be indicated. Adding or removing material may reshape the bridge of the nose. If you have thick skin, removing too much underlying support may give your nose an undesirable bulbous appearance. Dr. Azizzadeh will be able to explain fully what your specific procedure will entail.
